Tomsk, Samara and Ufa Student Chapters thanks Baker Hughes for their hospitality and excellent excursion. Here I tell in details: After arriving Samara and Ufa students were invited for excursion of Baker Hughes, Tomsk students were in time too. We learned much about history and work of the company. We had a free and easy conversation with Lenny Vidgorov, Dmitry Kazakovysev and Bill Bogle. Lenny presented us a couple of gifts, but we hope that our collaboration can be more effective for both Baker Hughes and students.

We want to express our thanks for Gubkin University Chapter for excellence in holding the Contest. Individual respect for Professor Lukhminsky.

Destingueshed Lecturer Program
Alexander Krivosheev

On the 19th of May Tomsk Section received John N. Ezekwe – lecturer of SPE Distinguished Lecturer Program. His lection about reservoir management was rather interesting.

Next day – May 20, we had a sightseeing tour with Mr. Ezekwe over the Tomsk. We visited TPU museum, mineralogical museum, exhibition of Tomsk animals and places with wooden architecture.

During the dinner John tell us about actual problems of American petroleum engineering students. Mr. Ezekwe pleasantly surprised us with his urbane manners.

Many thanks for Mr. Ezekwe for his lection and pleasant chat.

P.S. Unfortunately we have no photos of this event.

SPE Student Chapter Paper Contest in Russia
Alexander Krivosheev

  Dear All,

This year SPE conducts a student chapter paper contest for all SPE student
chapters in Russia.

There will be three main disciplines, Geology/Geophysics, Drilling, and
Production Engineering, and the winners will attend 2005 ATCE in Dallas/TX in October

The final event, the presentation and award ceremony, will be held  on Friday, June 3rd, in Moscow.

Deadline for final paper submissions will be May 25th, 2005. However, to
make this work effectively we will need a pre-qualification in each SPE
section, and for that the deadline will be May 15th, to allow the local
committee to select the best papers in each category and pass it on the
regional committee that we will form in Moscow. Based on the number of
student chapters in each SPE section, we will then define how many papers
each section is allowed to submit to the final contest. The language for
this paper contest is Russian, and other details of the format will be
provided later on.
